INGLES

  • 1. HOW TO GET THE STUDENTS LIKE ENGLISH BY LUDIC ACTIVITIES

    2. DIAGNOSTICS AND JUSTIFICATION

Most students dislike English classes because these are developed by a formal way and the students don´t feel comfortable  using the foreign language. They don´t get to enjoy their           learning, so that it´s  important to use other strategies in the  English language Teaching in order to attract the student´s  attention.

Teaching of a second language demands to develop all four communicative skills in learners and these can developed by different ludic activities like contests, songs, rallies, etc.  English teachers can get this proposal if they have appropriate resources, but in my school there aren´t those ones  which are necessary  in order to develop different activities. For that reason  it´s  indispensable to make some materials with the  students’ help and little by little  to get that the learners abolish the prejudice that English is difficult to learn.

    BIBLIOGRAPHY

    •   PROJECT:  “ HOW TO GET THE STUDENTS  LEARN  MORE VOCABULARY IN ENGLISH USING GAMES”

    1.  JUSTIFICATION

It is important to increase communicative competence in our students, for that reason with the development of this project we want the children use English Language in a real context.

Teaching of a second foreign language is one of the fields in education in which social changes and pedagogical innovation renew the necessity of Government Educational Centers and the teacher to adapt the manners to do the reality in a constant change process.

The languages represent their cultures; reflect different forms to be and to think.  Our society is defined by technological advantages, cultures and human beings are in a process of using linguistic reality.  English language uses as an exchange in Europe and around the world as international language.

In fact, English has made satisfactory progress in the society, at the same time as teaching and learning helping to improve and to develop different competences, skills and abilities.

In our project it is important to keep in mind the following aspects:

©    The importance of knowing and using new words depending on the context.
©    To abolish the prejudice that English is difficult to learn.
©     Life expectations taking into account new technologies such as INTERNET.
©    English gives the students the opportunity of being competitive in a constant changing world.
©    To engage students and teachers to create an English environment at school.

    2.  DIAGNOSTICS

Lack of motivation:  students and teachers do not speak in English all the time due to they feel that it is not necessary so English is only used in the classroom.

Problem: Students and teachers do not feel self confidence to develop language skills.

How to get students learn more vocabulary every day?

How can English teachers help students to get new useful vocabulary every day?

    3.  OBJECTIVE

To give opportunity to students to get skills for improving English as a second language in a bilingual environment.

    3.1. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • To learn new vocabulary and to use words according to the context.
  • To apply new strategies.
  •  To create a good class atmosphere in English.

4.  METHODOLOGY

We are going to use the communicative language teaching based on the following steps:

©    Lessons, units, courses which include situations, notions and functions; themes, topics, centers of interest and even a series of  tasks to carry out.

©    Classroom techniques, as far as possible, are task-based; that is, learners carry out activities which are mediated through language: students learn for communication through communication.  Here, it is assumed that learners “pick-up” vocabulary, grammar, and use in communication if they focus on meaning.

5.  STRATEGIES

Games are going to be used as the principal tool to teach English in the classroom.  Here, we present some of the games and activities that we are going to develop in the project:

Rally
Bingo

The students of the eleventh grade are going to develop their project of life.  They have to write a little project about their personality, family, future expectations, dreams, etc.  which will have to be socialized in front their classmates  in the date given by the  teacher.

They have to keep in mind these steps for the written project:

©    Dedication
©    Justification
©    Autobiography
©    Origin  or genealogy
©    Curious day about their families
©    Strength and weakness
©    Hobbies
©    Goals  for a short and long time
©    Spiritual, social, intellectual, economical, physical aspects.
©    Conclusions

6. 2.  ENGLISH DAY

The entire group is going to do this activity. We distribute the activities among four groups.  We can do this activity inside the room or outside. We can show this activity to the whole groups of our school.

6.2.1. Music, music

In the first corner a group is going to think about the way of presenting a song. You have some songs given in some handouts; you can take one of this or select a different one.  The ways of presenting the song could be:

  1. Writing it on a poster using some blanks or drawings to complete it.  That is to say, you can do the others listen to the song and try to complete it.
  2. You can learn and sing it in front of the others.  If it is your choice, you must be sure about the pronunciation.
  3. You can do pantomimic.

Note:  It is important to write about some biographies aspects of the singer from the selected song.

6.2.2. Fashion show

In the second corner, other group is going to organize a fashion exhibition, (woman’s, man’s clothes and shoes).

The group can be divided into two groups one of them will be the models, they will show the clothes, and the others can describe in English, what they are modeling.

The stand can be full of clothes with their names in English.

When the parade finishes, one of the group can take off the name of the clothes, and gives the names to someone of the public and this person is going to try to locate the name in the correct clothes.

In the stand you can have the name of some famous top models from Colombia and other countries.

The group can design other kind of activities using the resources that they have in their stand.

6.2.3. Delicious recipes

Write the recipes on the board, and each one of the group is going to explain which ingredients were necessary to prepare the recipe and the way you prepare it. Each member of the group can explain a recipe.
You can paste some pictures or drawings referring to some ingredients used in the recipes.

Make a brainstorming in order to get the ingredients, think about some strategies to collect the materials and the place where you are going to prepare those delicious meals.

At the D stage we are going to find an easy recipe, remember that you have to prepare some drink without liquor.

6.2.4. Let’s learning by doing nice games

In the fourth corner the group is going to invite some students to participate and to enjoy learning and reviewing some vocabulary through the different games.  We can take into account some games seen in the previous handout.

You can create your own games, taking some Spanish models.  (Domino, bingo, lotería, concéntrese).  Don’t forget that all those activities should have a big quantity of creativity.
